Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu (right photo) calls on local executives to show “decisive environmental leadership” by riding on President Duterte’s strong political will to solve pollution ills in the country as shown in the ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay and Manila Bay. Cimatu urged the 74 governors and 1,538 mayors present at the “President’s Meeting with Local Chief Executives” held at the Manila Hotel on July 23, 2019, to close ranks with their neighboring provinces, towns and cities to make their respective constituencies resilient to climate change challenges as “environmental concerns usually go beyond territorial boundaries.” ###

Calderon underscored that deforestation and biodiversity loss in Southeast Asia is a major challenge to ASOF leaders and dialogue partners to operationalize strategic direction and action plans at the national level.###
