Massive Clean-up activity held on August 24, 2019 at Sitio Lusimba, Brgy. Basak, San Nicolas, Cebu City.

DENR 7 officials and personnel together with nearly 600 participants and volunteers from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, BJMP, PNP, Cebu City ENRO, BLGU of Basak San Nicolas, Philippine Navy, DPWH, Phil Red Cross, DPS and Cebu City Barangay environment officers, senior citizens, Ubos Poso Day Care Center, Basak Community High School and Department of Education collected around 45 tons of trash today in a clean-up conducted at Sitio Lusimba, Brgy. Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City.

Based on the report generated by CENRO Cebu City, the 45 tons of trash collected are composes mostly of plastics, rubbers, diapers, water bottles, leather bags,sacks, glass bottles, Styrofoam, cans, used rubber tires, junk items, junk food wrappers.

The clean-up was initiated by the DENR CENRO Cebu City together with Cebu City Government and other agency partners following the request of Brgy. Basak San Nicolas.

One of the priority programs of the DENR under the leadership of Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu is the rehabilitation of river systems and other waterbodies in the country.

The DENR 7 through the Conservation Development Division (CDD) is hosting the Training Workshop on National Integrated Protected Area System (NIPAS) Marine Protected Areas Capacity Building Program Regional Rollout for Cluster 2 Protected Area Managers at Alta Cebu Village Garden Resort in Cordova, Cebu from September 2-7, 2019.

The training which started yesterday aimed to capacitate and equip protected area managers on various aspects of marine protected area management and performance monitoring especially on marine ecosystem, coastal and ocean processes, MPA fundamentals and coastal and marine spatual planning.

Participants of Cluster 2 rollout are protected area managers from DENR 7, MIMAROPA, DENR Region 5, DENR Region 6 and DENR Region 8.

Establishing marine protected areas is one of the best strategies implemented in the countrt to promote sustainable management of coastal and marine resources. With the growing number of MPAs in the Philippines, there is a need to improve the understanding of stakeholders on the effective management of these MPAs.

The said training workshop aims to address this need and make sure that protected area managers are provided with the proper guidance, methods and techniques they can use in the implementation of programs, projects and activities for their respective MPAs.

A total of 373 agricultural patents were recently distributed to farmers in Danao City and Pinamungajan in Cebu Province and Municipality of Valencia in Bohol Province.
 
This, after the DENR 7 through its provincial environment and natural resources offices in Bohol and Cebu together with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices in Cebu City, Argao and Tagbilaran City, the Registry of Deeds (ROD) and local government partners have jointly conducted a simultaneous title distribution last September 2 and 4, 2019 in the two provinces.
 
Of the total number of titles distributed, 290 titles were distributed in Valencia, 29 titles in Danao City and another 54 in Pinamungajan, Cebu.
 
According to DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Paquito D. Melicor Jr., the Handog Titulo Program is being conducted nationwide every month of September in observance of the founding anniversary of the Land Management Bureau.
 
This year, DENR celebrated the 118th Lands Anniversary last September 2, 2019.
 
Based on the DENR 7 report, the office have already transmitted 1,389 agricultural patents as of August 30 to ROD and targets to issue a total of 2,616 agricultural patents by the end of 2019.
One truck loaded with 0.5 cubic meter of undocumented sand in Barangay Soludpan, Bacong, Negros Oriental was intercepted by joint operating team of DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Dumeguete City, Mines and Geosciences Bureau 7, Environmental Management Bureau 7 and PNP Bacong Police Station last Tuesday, September 4, 2019.
 
PENR Officer of Negros Oriental Nestor M. Canda said that the team conducted a surveillance monitoring in the area to verify reports of rampant illegal extraction of sand and gravel.
 
Based on the submitted incident report, the team caught on the spot three unidentified men extracting and loading sand to the Isuzu dump truck using shovels. Upon sensing their presence, the three managed to escape while a certain Manuel Sarita, 54, a resident of Brgy. Combado, Bacong, Negros Oriental who identifed himself as the driver of the dump truck was arrested by the team.
 
The truck driver failed to present the necessary authority to support the act of extraction and possession of sand which is a clear violation of Sections 103 of RA 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act. Canda added that further investigation will be conducted to identify the names of three unidentified suspects.
 
"MGB 7 is now conducting the necessary administrative proceedings for the filing of case in court against the violators. DENR PENRO Negros Oriental will continue to closely monitor all mining and quarry operations in the province," said PENRO Canda.
 
Prior to this, two mini dump trucks also loaded with sand and other extracting tools were also confiscated by the DENR CENRO enforcement team in Bacong, Negros Oriental last July 2, 2019.
