Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) OIC Assistant Secretary for Staff Bureaus and Biodiversity Management Bureau Director in concurrent capacity Ricardo Calderon expresses optimism on the growth of forestry among the member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in his Opening Remarks during the 22nd Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry held on July 18, 2019 in Makati City. Calderon underscored that deforestation and biodiversity loss in Southeast Asia is a major challenge to ASOF leaders and dialogue partners to operationalize strategic direction and action plans at the national level.###

Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu makes a clarion call to delegates of the pre-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Forum held in Davao City last July 17, 2019 to “soldier on against climate change.” Cimatu said meeting head-on climate-change related challenges through a whole-of-nation approach has spawned encouraging results as seen in the Boracay and Manila Bay rehabilitation programs of the government. Cimatu is the chair of the Cabinet Cluster on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation and Disaster Risk Disaster Risk Reduction. ###
