Best Dives 1

DENR Central Visayas joins the nation in observing the Best Dives Philippines Week.

Presidential Proclamation No. 758, signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in January 14, 2005 declared every second week of January and every year thereafter as Best Dives Philippines Week promoting scuba diving with emphasis on protection and conservation of the country’s underwater marine resources.

Scuba diving and related activities are special tourism interest that greatly contributed in the development and promotion of tourism.  Our marine resources are source of livelihood for fisherfolks, boatman, resort owners, investors, local governments and recreational activities both for the local and foreign tourists.

Some of the major diving spots in the Philippines are situated in Central Visayas,  particularly in Apo Island in Negros Oriental, Moalboal and Malapascua in Cebu Balicasag and Cabilao Island in Bohol.  The challenges we face now is how to preserve, protect and conserve this sites as human activities and climate change intensify.  Our marine resources are prone to pollution from overflows of untreated sewage and mismanaged waste specifically the plastics which harms the ecosystem.

DENR Region 7 calls all dive enthusiasts, let us do some action, schedule scubasurero clean-up drive, coordinate with the local government units (LGUs) and stakeholders on site to show an act of love for our oceans. Ikaw, Ako, Kita Ang Kalikupan.
