neg or river 2024 2

The RIVERs For Life - Banica River Rehabilitation project Group 1 composed of PENRO Negros Oriental, PGNO-Environment and Natural Resources Department (ENRD), Silliman University (SU), Foundation University (FU), and St. Paul University of Dumaguete (SPUD) conducted a water sampling activity last March 23 at four replicate sites of the Banica River to test on the physicochemical parameters - turbidity, pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen and conductivity.
The tests were made at the upper stream (Tejeros), two intermediate mid streams (Palinpinon and the Vida Royal sections), and finally the lower stream (delta), or the Tinago Bridge.

โ€œThe water sampling activity from Casaroro-Tejeros in Valencia town down to Tinago Bridge in Dumaguete City signifies our commitment in partnership with the Local Government Units (PLGU and BLGU) and the academe to safeguard our natural resources and protect and preserve the Banica River as an essential part of our ecosystemโ€, said PENRO Viernov Grefalde.

The activity is one of many to be undertaken by the group which will run for the entire year to include river characteristics during the dry and wet seasons. The next schedule of tests will be on March 26 for the Coliform Count and April 20 for another water sampling to determine the actual condition of the water quality especially during the dry season.

Group 1 is the Aesthetic and Water Quality Improvement Team, in charge to monitor the water quality of Banica River, provide data, reports and recommendations to other teams for collaborative action.
