Negros Oriental- Noting the significant relationship between forests and water and its importance to humanity, PENRO Negros Oriental conducted a tree planting activity and environmental forum today to celebrate jointly the International Day of Forests (March 21) and World Water Day (March 22).
In early morning, members of the civic organization Gentle City Dumaguete Eagleβs Club and personnel of PENRO Negros Oriental planted fifty Red Lauan (Shorea negrosensis) seedlings inside the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park, one of the provinceβs watershed that is supplying water to communities for household and agricultural use. Also, the planting activity is in support to the conservation and preservation efforts to address climate change and biodiversity crisis, and to enhance water quality and ensure abundance of clean water.
After the planting activity, PENRO personnel conducted an environmental forum at Cambaloctot High School in San Jose, Negros Oriental where forty-five students (Grades 7, 8, and 9) attentively listened on the discussion of the following topics: What is Forest and its Important Role to Humanity, brief background on the celebration of World Water Day and its Importance, and Brief Profile of Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park (BTLNP). The activity ended with a Q&A where students exhibited great learnings from the discussion.
