 CRERDEC 1

Coastal Resources and Ecotourism Research, Development and Extension Center (CRERDEC) through the Experimental Forest Station (EFS) led the conduct of a “Refresher Training on Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) Laws for the Deputized Environment and Natural Resources Officers (DENRO) and Wildlife and Environment Officers (WEO) held at the CRERDEC Training Hall in Camp 7, Minglanilla, Cebu on November 26, 2021. Representatives from Barangay Camp-7, Minglanilla, Cebu and Manipis, Talisay City; EFS Bantay Gubat; local Peoples Organization; DENR-CENRO Cebu; and some CRERDEC staff attended the said activity. Technical staff from the DENR-7 Enforcement Division served as the resource persons.

The activity is one of the requirements for the approval of the application of new DENROs/WEOs and/or the renewal of appointment of those deputized in 2020. With threats consistently posed on CRERDEC’s experimental forest and the surrounding timberland coupled with a limited number of government-hired Bantay Gubat, the role of Deputized ENROs/WEOs is crucial. They serve as additional forces that aid DENR-CENROs in the case build-up for the prosecution of forest violators.
