Municipal Government of Minglanilla, Cebu and DENR Central Visayas inked MOA to protect forests
With the preservation of its forest one of top priorities, the Minglanilla Municipal Government through Mayor Rajiv Enad signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to craft and implement a Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP).
While the management of the country’s natural resources rests primarily on the DENR, the Municipal Government also shares in the responsibility.
Minglanilla is home to the country’s first reforestation project which is more than a century old.
In the MOA signed this afternoon by Mayor Rajiv and DENR 7 Director Pacquito Melicor Jr., they agreed to “formulate and legitimize” the FLUP.
The FLUP will define the strategies “to conserve the forest and water biodiversity resources” in Minglanilla, to ensure the sustainable development of the forest and forest reserves in the town for today’s use and “for generations yet to come.”
“With this memorandum of agreement with DENR as well as implementing and releasing our forest land use plan for the next ten years. We hope that Minglanilla’s development will be sustainable in the next ten years,“ Mayor Rajiv said.
Witnesses in the ceremony were the Municipal Council headed by Vice Mayor Lani Peña, Atty. Jesus “Boyet” Velez, chairman for the environment committee, Irene O. Anonar, MLGOO, Charlie E. Fabre OIC- Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, Jose Cleo Cary F. Colis PENRO, Raul C. Pasoc CENRO, and Engr. Ivanlee Montejo, MENRO.
