June is the celebration of the 2022 Philippine Environment Month and on June 05 is the World Environment Day.

DENR Central Visayas urge everyone to make a change. Let us do good actions to protect and restore our planet earth. Help us combat climate change, species extinction and pollution that poison our air, land, and water.

The then President Corazon C. Aquino approved the Proclamation No. 237 on April 4, 1988, declaring the month of June every year as Philippine Environment Month and to give time and effort towards the protection, enhancement and development of the country's environment.

The country also celebrates the World Environment Day which was declared by late President Ferdinand Marcos on June 1, 1973,  by virtue of Proclamation No. 1149, Series of 1973, in consonance with the United Nations General Assembly's Resolution No. 2994 dated December 15, 1972, declaring the 5th day of June every year as World Environmental Day and urging governments in the United Nations System to undertake on that day, activities reaffirming their concern for preservation and enhancement of the environment.

A series of different activities will take place during the celebration, DENR-EMB7 will conduct “Pista sa EMB-7”, a one week agro-industrial trade fair and exhibits from different partners on May 30 until June 03 in DENR compound, Banilad, Mandaue City., showcase of sports activities and pinoy games, as well as a One-stop-shop for all EMB related applications.

Simultaneous river clean-up for the R.I.V.E.R.S for Life (Recognizing Individuals/ Institutions towards Vibrant and Enhanced Rivers) on June 05, 2022 in celebration of the World Environment Day.

Ten (10) river systems identified in the region are situated in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor namely the three rivers in the Province of Bohol are the Abatan River in Cortes, Inabanga River in Inabanga and Manaba River in Garcia-Hernandez; Bulacao River in Bulacao, Cebu City, Butuanon River in Mandaue City and Luyang River in Carmen, Cebu for Cebu Province; Banica River in Valencia, Panamang-an River in Bais City and Sicopong River in Sta. Catalina, all in Negros Oriental and one in the Province of Siquijor, the Señora River.

All PENROs will disseminate IEC materials on anti-littering and anti-dumping, installation of advocacy billboards and signages. Participants are from different NGAs, NGOS, LGU/BLGUs, private institutions/sectors, communities and other stakeholders in the area.  Nationwide tree planting activities are also scheduled on June 08, 2022 and June 25, 2022.

“We are also encouraging our partners, stakeholders and other government offices to hang streamers/banners in their respective offices, disseminate information through social media on how to take care of our planet, clean-up activities even at home or participate in tree planting activities. Be a responsible steward of our planet. There is only #OnlyOneEarth. Aksyon Para sa Nag-inusarang Kalibutan,” RED Paquito Melicor, Jr. said.
