PENRO Cebu Celebrates International Earth Day 2022

In celebration of the International Earth Day 2022, PENRO Cebu led by PENR Officer Jose Cleo Colis conducted a plantation maintenance activity through enrichment planting at Barangay Gaas, Balamban, Cebu.PENRO Colis expressed his appreciation to the participants for celebrating this special day with nature.

With the theme, "Invest in our Planet '', he encouraged everyone to take action such as tree planting activity to strengthen environmental health as this is one of our greatest investments for our community, our planet, and our future. He also emphasized the importance of forest as a shield against the onslaught of typhoons such as Odette & Basyang and as a main source of ingredients for medications.

With a total number of 40 participants, 80 native seedlings of Cinnamon and Molave were replanted in the site. The activity was participated by PENRO Cebu Personnel spearheaded by PENR Officer Jose Cleo Cary F. Colis, PA-CPPL staff led by APAsu Arnold Omandam, Sr., Barangay Gaas Captain William Genil, 2 teachers from Bulacao Community School, and 10 volunteers of the youth organization "Stewards of the Environment"

CENRO Tagbilaran "Oplan Baklas"

A total of 2,666 various campaign materials nailed, tacked, and displayed on trees have been removed by DENR CENRO Tagbilaran City personnel spearheaded by For. Walter Ramirez, Chief Enforcement Monitoring Section emphasizing the need to intensify the promotion of an environmentally conscious national election campaign and as part of the Earth Day celebration.

The removal of campaign posters and paraphernalia nailed on trees dubbed as “Oplan Baklas" started last April 4, 2022 until now.This activity is in close coordination with our partners, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Local Government Units, PNP and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

Most of the dismantled poll campaign materials were made of tarpaulins, plywood, and cloth streamers along Public highways in San Isidro, Antequera, Loon, Abatan Cortes to Tagbilaran City, Loay to Loboc, Bilar to Carmen, San Pedro, San Antonio within PA and national highway of Duero, Bohol.

With this, OIC CENR Officer Forester Elena G. Suarez appeals to all candidates and their supporters to strictly follow the law and spare the trees from campaign posters since there are designated common poster areas for the candidates, and the trees are not one of those. "We have to spare the trees from these election materials since these trees provide various environmental benefits to us," Suarez added.

Under Republic Act 3571, cutting, destroying, or injuring planted or growing trees, flowering plants, shrubs, or plants of scenic value along public roads, in plazas, parks, school premises, or on any other public pleasure grounds is prohibited.
