DENR 7 Green Quiz Challenge and Battle of Spoken Poetry

Joined by provincial winners from Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor, secondary school students compete for the title of the first ever Regional Champion of the DENR 7 Green Quiz Challenge and Battle of Spoken Poetry held today at Parkmall, Mandaue City, Cebu in celebration of the 2019 Philippine Environment Month with the theme: Beat Air Pollution.

Winners for the DENR 7 Green Quiz Challenge Regional Level are:
Champion: Andrei Nicolei F. Uy of Consolacion National High School
1st Place Winner: Andrea Farah B. Banzon of Ramon Durano Sr. Foundation in Danao City, Cebu
2nd Place Winner: Jou Benheart G. Heruela of Candaping National High School in Siquijor

Winners of the Battle of Spoken Poetry are:
Champion: Riza Parnada of Arcelo National High School
1st Place Winner: Evelyn Soriano of Mabolo National High School
2nd Place Winner: Juvelyn Tracarol of Leon Parami High School in Siquijor

The activity is primarily aimed to encourage students to learn and understand more about the various environmental issues, showcase their talents and foster public awareness on the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.

In a statement, DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Gilbert Gonzales shared that one of the intentions of the department is to draw the attention of the youth sector to focus on various environmental issues.

"While they are young, we want to make them aware of what is going on with our environment, introduce to them our programs and projects including our biggest challenges such as air and plastic pollution in order to help them become environmentally aware citizens and contribute in addressing these environmental problems," added Gonzales.

The activity was organized by DENR 7 with the Environmental Management Bureau 7, Mines and Geosciences Bureau 7 and partners from Parkmall, Solid Earth Development Corporation and JLR Concrete and Aggregates.

DENR Undersecretary for Enforcement and Muslim Affairs Jim Sampulna meet with the officials of DENR Region 7

"Implementation of environmental laws needs the support from other national government agencies, local government units, stakeholders and other partners. For DENR, we seek to organize an environmental body in the Regional, PENRO and CENRO offices who will serve as the front line in the protection of our environment natural resources," USEC Jim said during his brief visit in the DENR Regional Office 7.

He also tasked the DENR 7 Enforcement Division Chief Viernov Grefalde to initiate the formation of the regional body by inviting and collaborating with partner enforcement agencies such as PNP, Coast Guards, AFP including the local government units, private groups, people's organizations and the media people to address smuggling of wildlife species and other environmental crimes in the region.

"This will strengthen our efforts in the protection of our natural resources and with this initiative, we have high hopes that this would intensify our actions against environmental law violators. We will work alongside with our partners to effect the implementation of all environmental laws," RED Melicor added.

Nature’s Mystic Beauty. Lamanoc Island, Anda, Bohol. A newly discovered ecotourism destination in Bohol and is part of the Candijay-Anda-Mabini Mangrove Swamp Forest Reserve and Wilderness Area, a protected area managed by the DENR.
