4TH GAWAD TUGAS AWARDS NIGHT

 

Last night (June 27, 2018), 14 carefully selected partner national government agencies, private companies, local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) were awarded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 at Cebu Grand Convention Center, Cebu City during the 4th Gawad Tugas Awards Night.

“This is the 4th year of the Gawad Tugas Award which was initiated by the DENR 7 starting last 2015 to seriously take recognition of our partners’ efforts and sound environmental practices beyond their normal responsibilities and functions,” said DENR 7 Regional Director Gilbert C. Gonzales.

The main intention of the Gawad Tugas is to promote and replicate good environmental practices done by the awardees and recognize institutions which have made significant and outstanding contribution in the protection, conservation and management of the environment and natural resources.

Creation of an RDC Environment Committee

The Economic Development Committee in its first quarter meeting, passed a Resolution for the creation of an RDC Environment Committee to focus on the environmental and sustainability and risk resilience aspects of the Development Plans, Policies, Programs, Projects (D4Ps).

On June 27, the RDC Environmental Committee Members convened for the first time for the organizational meeting and levelling off presided by the DENR 7 Regional Director Gilbert C. Gonzales, committee's co-chair at NEDA 7 Conference Hall, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.

Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary. OIWS is the country’s first wetland of international importance for waterfowl declared under RAMSAR. This wetland area is now a critical stopover for tens of thousands of migratory birds travelling the East Asian Migratory Flyway, one of the most important shorebird and water bird migratory flyways in the world.

As of today, UFTPAI native coffee is now marketed in Ubay and all other neighboring municipalities in Bohol.
