In response to the request of the Local Government Unit of Maribojoc to facilitate issuance of Presidential Proclamation declaring a 40.3-hectare portion of the uplifted area for ecotourism development, RD Gonzales directed the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 to assess the geological condition of the area, conduct sub-surface survey mapping and geohazard scoping to make sure that the area is safe and suitable for such proposed development activities.

DENR 7 Regional Director Engr. Gilbert C. Gonzales together with Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco recently conducted an area inspection of the Maribojoc-Loon Uplifted Reef in Bohol Province.

“We support the local government unit in their intentions to develop and make use of the potential of the uplifted reef as an ecotourism site, but first we have to be sure that it is safe,” said RD Gonzales.

Results of the survey by the MGB 7 will serve as the basis for the drafting of the presidential proclamation and for the formulation of the management plan of subject uplifted reef flat.
